We’re officially in the ‘just survive until summer’ phase

Happy Monday!

I don’t know who needs to hear this right now, but if your classroom feels slightly unhinged lately… it’s not just you.

We’ve officially entered the end of year chaos, although I'm sure some of you are on summer vacay...

  • students forgetting how chairs work
  • behavior routines disappearing overnight
  • missing assignments magically appearing at the worst possible time
  • and approximately 900 things that somehow “need to be finished before summer”

Middle school special education in May/June is truly its own experience.

So this week on the blog, I wrote something honest:
The Emotional Chaos of June in Special Education (and How to Survive It)

It’s part survival guide, part teacher therapy session, and part reminder that you are not failing just because you’re exhausted.

Inside the post, I’m sharing:

  • what actually helps during the final weeks
  • ways to simplify the chaos
  • how to survive the paperwork mountain
  • and the reminder every special ed teacher probably needs right now

And if you’re currently reading this while avoiding progress monitoring paperwork…

Honestly? Same.

You’re almost there.

If the phrase "back-to-school organization" makes you want to hide under your desk with a coffee, I get it. There are approximately one million things to get ready before the school year starts, and somehow, we're also supposed to have a system for all of them. Before you get too far into the back-to-school chaos, I put together a new post with 7 classroom systems every middle school special education teacher should set up before Labor Day. Inside, I'm breaking down simple systems for:...

Hi friend, I am trying to ignore the fact that the summer is already flying by. And being from Mass. mine only just started! Every summer I tell myself I'm going to spend a little time getting organized before school starts... and somehow it's suddenly the week before teacher workdays. Every. Single. Year. If you're a middle school inclusion teacher, there are a few things you can do now that will make those first weeks of school so much less stressful. The good news? None of them involve...

Hey there, Let’s talk about progress monitoring for a second. Not the ideal, color-coded, perfectly-organized version… I mean the real version:– Sticky notes you swear you’ll enter later– Data sheets you can’t find when you actually need them– Trying to remember if you collected anything for that one goal last week 👀 Somehow, something that sounds simple turns into one more overwhelming thing on your plate. Here’s the truth no one really says out loud: Progress monitoring isn’t hard because...
